A flash mob of people in Valentine’s Day red outfits sang and danced in warm Byron waters on Saturday as part of a global campaign against gendered violence.
It was the 14th year for the Northern Rivers to be represented as part of the international One Billion Rising campaign, which includes advocacy for cisgender and transgender women, as well as those with fluid identities subject to violence.
It’s considered the largest mass action on the matter.
Around 110 people from across the gender and age spectrums joined organiser Zenith Virago early in the morning at Main Beach, where skies held the rain at bay long enough for what has become a traditional flash-mob song and dance event to light up the shore.
Around fifteen women danced the Bolero before the crowd joined forces to dance and sing to the song Break The Chains.
