UPDATE, 4.15pm: One of Byron Bay’s main southern exits is reportedly experiencing major traffic delays, adding to a rainy afternoon of traffic woes for local commuters.
Locals have told The Echo traffic is moving again at regular speed on Byron’s Ewingsdale Road after a crash caused major delays there earlier, affecting school bus routes.
But less than two hours later, Live Traffic NSW showed traffic delays along the main southern route between Byron Bay and Bangalow.
Lanes were closed in both directions on Bangalow Road between Coopers Shoot and St Helena Roads at Hayters Hill at around 4pm.
The advice came after an earlier incident on the same road that was reportedly under control.
Volunteers from the Rural Fire Service were on-scene putting out a car fire around 5am Monday, information from Live Traffic NSW showed.
EARLIER: Anyone planning to travel to or from Byron Bay this afternoon is advised to check online traffic advice first owing to a crash on Ewingsdale Road.
School bus routes were impacted, including for Mullumbimby High School, with students, staff and caregivers advised to expect delays.
The Byron Shire Council reported the crash on the main road into Byron from the north, near William Flick Lane, to Live Traffic NSW at 2.17pm Monday.
It’s understood an SUV was involved but emergency services were yet to provide an update at time of publishing.
Traffic was heavy with alternating stop/slow conditions reportedly in place to let drivers pass in one direction at a time.
