Surf champions from all around the world are in Byron Bay for the annual Australian Pro Adaptive Surfing Championships.
Organiser and world surf legend Mark ‘Mono’ Stewart was in town on Sunday, leading the jubilant crowd in a parade through the streets up to the Main Beach foreshore.
Traditional custodians welcomed travellers and locals with a smoking ceremony.
Sunday’s slight rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of athletes already considered heroes long before they compete for medals, be sure to check out the scene captured by Echo photographer Jeff Dawson.
The competition is scheduled to happen all week at the internationally recognised surf mecca of Byron Bay, for daily schedules and precise locations along Clarkes, Main Beach and the Pass, check out the event’s website.
