The volunteers at Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers do a fantastic job looking after local wildlife in distress. If you’re interested in becoming a wildlife carer, the group is running an introductory course later this month at Goonellabah.
The workshop will introduce the common species of animals that come into care, and examine the threats to local wildlife. New members will learn basic rescue methods for wallabies and kangaroos, birds, possums, echidnas and reptiles.

At the end of the day you’ll have a better understanding of what Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers do in the community, and learn what sort of role within the group might be most suitable for you, including animal rescue, rehabilitation and caring, hotline, release sites for possums, admin, social media, helping with supplying leaf, transport, and sewing.
The course, ‘Introduction to Rescue and Rehabilitation of Native Wildlife’ is happening on Sunday, 29 March, at Goonellabah, from 9am until 3pm.
The cost is $25 for members, or $45 for non-members (including a year’s membership).
Please book via email: [email protected] or phone (02) 6628 1866.
