McGrath’s Byron Bay office has been vacated, following extensive fire damage from Thursday’s fire at a neighbouring e-bike shop.
As previously reported, Freedom Machine: Byron Bay – a Byron Bay bicycle rental service in Byron Street, was consumed by flames yesterday.
The fire started around 1pm Thursday, 16 April, and Fire and Rescue NSW brought the fire under control.
Nick Dunn from McGrath Byron Bay Real Estate Agency told The Echo his team had already secured a temporary premises to operate while the Byron office is refurbished.
‘After the initial shock – we’ve moved on,’ he said.
‘We are grateful that there was no injuries’, he added.
Nick said the toxicity of battery residue was significant, and that he and the team had to wear masks to collect essential items from the office.

Nick added he expects it to be a couple of months’ renovations before they can return.
‘We want to stay there, we love the shop’, he said.
‘It business as usual’, Nick added.
