A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help a family who lost everything in a house fire last week.Frea Bandini-Alefosio writes, ‘We are neighbours and friends of Jeff and Alma Jackson, long time Mullumbimby locals, we are setting up this fundraiser to help support them after a devastating house fire’.
‘In the early hours of Wednesday morning, tragedy struck when Jeff and Alma’s family home caught fire. While Jeff and Alma were out of town at the time, their two grandchildren and nephew were inside the home and incredibly escaped.
‘Sadly, the fire destroyed everything. Jeff and Alma have been part of the local community since 1978, and as pensioners, they are now facing the heartbreaking reality of losing their home, belongings, and a lifetime of memories. To make matters even harder, they did not have contents insurance.
‘Many locals may know the Jackson family through the community over the years. Their son Matt and his wife Elle have run Spice It Up Thai and Tom Tom Thai in Brunswick Heads, while Alma worked at Mallams the old IGA and Jeff worked for many years as a dive instructor and skipper with the Byron Bay Dive Centre. They are a family who have always been hardworking, generous, and deeply connected to the Northern Rivers community.‘We are raising funds to help ease some of the overwhelming pressure they are now facing and to help them begin rebuilding their lives.
‘Donations will go toward immediate essentials furniture, and other household necessities for the family.
‘Jeff and Alma are kind, humble people who have been part of this community for decades, and now they need the support of the community around them. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a genuine difference.
