Bruce Porter (Echo, 13/5/26) raises the problem that is inciting anti-Jewish actions and bigotry here – holding all Jews collectively responsible for Israel’s actions.
Dear Bruce, how is it that the actions of no other world government, or the actions of the Catholic Church, are the collective fault of each member of the country or religion?
While the present Israeli government’s actions are not without criticism, collective responsibility of all of the world’s Jews is a classic antisemitic tactic.
Alleging collective guilt, while shouting slogans about Israel or Gaza, is often invoked to justify attacks on Jews here, and is a fundamental building block of the violence, harassment, and of Jews ostracised from being an integral part of Australia’s cultural landscape.
And similarly, why is not the entire Gazan population, or all Palestinians globally, not held responsible for Hamas’s actions, in the similar way that you claim that it is the Israeli government’s actions are causing this global antagonism to Jews?
