A 42-year-old man is to face court at Tweed Heads today, accused of carrying a loaded gun in public last Thursday.
Officers from the Tweed/Byron Police District say they were patrolling the Tweed Heads area last Thursday night, 21 May, when they found a man acting suspiciously around parked vehicles on Minjungbal Drive at around 10.40pm.
Officers were speaking with him when they allegedly found and seized a firearm and ammunition in his pocket.
Subsequent inquiries revealed outstanding warrants for his arrest in relation to alleged theft and fraud related offences.
Police took the accused to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged him with possession of a loaded firearm in a public place and possession of ammunition without holding a licence, a permit or authority.
He spent the night in police custody before the state’s Bail Division refused him bail on Friday, pending his scheduled reappearance at Local Tweed Heads Court on Monday 25 May.
