LisAmore! returns

There is something quietly remarkable about LisAmore! Every year, thousands of people make their way to a corner of the Northern Rivers and, for a few hours, swap the everyday for something altogether warmer – the aromas of fresh pasta and cannoli in the air, the sound of an accordion drifting across the grounds, children twirling spaghetti with the kind of concentration usually reserved for far more serious pursuits.

Far North Coast Director of Lifesaving, David Rope

Far North Coast Director of Lifesaving, David Rope, was awarded an Emergency Services Medal as part of the King’s Birthday honourees this week – acknowledging his significant and sustained service to the movement.

“Those who know me understand that I never seek recognition, I volunteer because I believe in giving back and helping others,” he said.

“That said, I’m deeply humbled, honoured and proud that others have considered my contribution worthy of recognition at a national level.”

Surf Life Saving NSW (SLSC) say David has amassed over three decades of service and 4,000 hours on patrol and responding to incidents. “The Cudgen Headland SLSC member is renowned both on the Far North Coast and more broadly across the state for his operational expertise and calm demeanour when it is needed most”.

“His skills led him to ably coordinate his region’s response to flood and extreme weather events over the past few years, however his commitment to the core principle of lifesaving between the flags cannot be overstated; he is a mentor to many, a manager of intense situations, and his efforts have elevated the Far North Coast Branch’s capacity to respond to emergencies”.

“I enjoy helping people and supporting our communities,” David said.

“I consider myself fortunate to be in a position to contribute significant amounts of volunteered time to help others, and I’m part of an organisation full of dedicated volunteers  who wish to do the same.”

SLSC say, “An ESM was also awarded to Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club stalwart, Stuart Harvey, who has established himself at the forefront of emergency management operations on the NSW Central Coast”.

“He was one of SLSNSW’s first State Duty Officers and has held frontline and educational roles, showcasing his ability to be a true lifesaver when incidents arise while also passing on his knowledge to the next generation of volunteers”.

SLSNSW President, Elissa Hancock said she was extremely proud to lead an organisation supported by so many dedicated volunteers.

“I want to congratulate all our members recognised this year in the King’s Birthday Honours and thank them for their significant contributions to Surf Life Saving,” she said.

“I’m extremely proud that this movement attracts and retains members of such a calibre who continue to serve their clubs and the community with distinction.”
