When travelling these days there is a lot of cards come and go. They are like a business card but digital.
By digital. I mean, they unlock hotel room doors or they might be a digital railway ticket. If you haven’t grown up in this digital age it’s an exciting learning process.
Last week I decided to pop in and visit a friend in Chengdu, Western China.
I like riding trains and was getting good at it. One day I said to myself ‘catch a train around the city for a scenic tour’ – I didn’t know it was all underground. And I had a window seat.
Then the exit barrier would not accept my digital card. On the third try I pushed hard and it accepted my card but the barrier did not open – the police-type man let me out. Then at my hotel room my digital card would not open my door.
I had to buy a new card to open the door because my old card was jammed in the exit barrier machine at the railway station.
