A Chinderah aquaculture business is set to receive $2 million in state government funding to build a new fish hatchery, according to a NSW government media release.
Australia Bay Lobster Producers (ABLP) was among 31 businesses across NSW awarded grants under a $27 million program, with recipient businesses contributing a further $14 million — bringing the total investment to $41 million.
The government says the Chinderah operation plans to breed finfish for ornamental use, supply fingerlings to other aquaculture businesses and support restocking of NSW estuaries.

Other projects funded include modernised oyster farming systems, kelp farming, seaweed processing for skincare and medical products, and a Lake Cargelligo facility to harvest pest carp for aquaculture feed.
The grants are funded through the Regional Development Trust and are part of the Minns government’s 2024 NSW Aquaculture Vision Statement, which set a target to double the sector’s economic output by 2030. NSW’s aquaculture sector contributes almost $250 million to the state economy and supports 2,200 jobs.
