Police say a man will face court today charged after an alleged pursuit in a stolen vehicle at Tweed Heads yesterday morning.
They say, ‘About 9.10am on Monday 15 June 2026, police attempted to stop a vehicle in the car park of a shopping centre on Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads South’.
‘Inquiries had revealed that the vehicle – a red Holden Commodore – had allegedly been stolen from a Tweed Heads home overnight.
‘When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
‘The pursuit continued for a short time before being terminated due to safety concerns.
‘Police were told a short time later that the Commodore had crashed into a truck and trailer on the M1.
‘No injuries were reported; however, the driver allegedly left the scene and police commenced further inquiries.
‘Police attended the same shopping centre about 1pm where a 34-year-old Chinderah man was arrested.
‘He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with,
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Drive while licence cancelled
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Not give particulars to other driver, and
- Destroy or damage property.
‘He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 today (Tuesday 16 June 2026)’.
