The Pottsville Beach Community Hall is celebrating its 40th birthday and the whole community is invited to join the party.
Organisers say, ‘To mark four decades of community connection, the hall will host a free community celebration on Saturday 4 July from 11am to 6pm, bringing together locals past and present for a day of music, memories, food and family fun’.
Town’s largest public indoor venue

‘The 40th birthday celebration promises something for everyone, with a free sausage sizzle, historical photo display, children’s craft and activities, community cake competition and live band. Officially opened in 1986 during a period of rapid growth along the Tweed Coast, the hall has served as the town’s largest public indoor venue and a vital gathering place for generations of residents.
‘From dance and exercise classes to weddings, birthday parties and community meetings, the hall has played a central role in shaping Pottsville’s social fabric’.

Pottsville Beach Community Hall Committee President Abi Duncan said the celebration is about recognising the important role the hall has played in the community over the past 40 years.
‘This celebration is really about Pottsville, which is why we’re giving the community a free day out to celebrate the hall and everything we love about it’, Ms Duncan said.
‘We’re looking forward to seeing people reconnect with old friends, share memories and create some new ones together,’ she said.
High-energy seven-piece band

‘From 3pm, Australia’s premier yacht rock experience, Yacht Rock Holiday, will take to the stage. The high-energy seven-piece band is known for bringing the smooth sounds of the late 1970s and 1980s to life, performing favourites from artists including Toto, Hall & Oates, Steely Dan and Huey Lewis.
‘A licensed bar will also open from 2pm’.
‘We wanted the entertainment to be as fun and welcoming as the event itself. Yacht Rock Holiday is set to bring incredible energy and plenty of crowd favourites, so we’re expecting the dance floor to be busy from the moment they take the stage,’ she said.
‘As part of the celebrations, local baking enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels are invited to enter the Community Birthday Cake Competition. Entries will be judged by the community and special guest judges, with prizes on offer for the winning cakes.
‘Whether you’re an experienced baker or someone who simply loves making cakes for family and friends, we’d love to see people get involved,’ Ms Duncan said.

‘The cake competition is a fun way for the community to contribute to the celebration and, of course, enjoy some delicious birthday cake.
‘Located on Tweed Coast Road, the hall was built to replace earlier informal gathering spaces and has since grown into a flexible venue accommodating up to 250 people.
‘Operated by a dedicated committee of local volunteers, it continues to support a wide range of community activities and events. The committee is also calling on community members to get involved and help make the day a success.
‘We’re still looking for volunteers to lend a hand on the day or help behind the scenes. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a significant milestone for the hall and the wider community,’ Ms Duncan said.
‘Pottsville’s history Families have long been drawn to Pottsville’s idyllic coastal setting along Mooball Creek, rich in natural beauty and cultural history within the Bundjalung Nation. The hall reflects the town’s evolution from a small rural settlement into the vibrant, close-knit community it is today.
‘Over the past century, Pottsville has grown steadily while maintaining its coastal charm. In the 1920s, Archibald “Bill” Potts and his wife May established their home, Elanora, helping shape the town’s early identity. Originally known as Potts Point, the name was later changed to avoid confusion with Sydney, and today Pottsville is valued for its strong community spirit and location between the Gold Coast, Byron Bay and the Tweed hinterland.
