A sold-out show. A two-minute standing ovation. Melia Naughton returns for an encore performance of Amalfi Roast.
Naughton presents her one-woman show – a fast-paced music comedy packed with rapid-fire, monumental misadventures set to song, serving up the juicy (and often messy) moments of a well-squeezed life. There are also some very special guest appearances and dancing numbers – but you’ll have to come along to find out more.
The award-winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist sings her way through disaster dates, a rendezvous with Chris Hemsworth, puppy school pandemonium, peri-menopausal pubic hair overshares, and self-checkout supermarket humiliation. It’s human, heartfelt, honest and hilarious.
After premiering at the Drill Hall Theatre, Amalfi Roast was shortlisted for Best in Cabaret and Musical Theatre at Sydney Fringe Festival and nominated for Best in Music at Melbourne Fringe Festival. When the show returned to Byron Theatre in October, it played to a sold-out house and earned a two-minute standing ovation.
Melia is delighted to return to Byron Theatre, and its divine Steinway piano, accompanied by some extra special surprises.
‘The show has grown, and evolved, and I’m spilling the beans, but there are some new songs and some rather hilarious surprises,’ says Naughton.
‘If Tim Minchin was a girl, but funnier and better looking.’ – Claire Atkins.
Amalfi Roast plays Byron Theatre on Friday and Saturday, 26 and 27 June at 7.30pm.
