Tweed Shire Council staff say they will hold an Extraordinary Meeting today, Tuesday 2 June at 3.30 pm to ‘address an urgent governance matter relating to its Code of Meeting Practice’.
They say, ‘The meeting has been called following a decision of NSW Parliament to disallow the 2025 Model Code of Meeting Practice prepared by the Office of Local Government. The Model Code, which had been prescribed by State legislation and adopted by Council, was formally disallowed in Parliament last Tuesday evening (26 May)’.
‘As a result, Council is required to rescind its current Code of Meeting Practice, which is based on the now-disallowed 2025 Model Code, to ensure it remains compliant with legislative requirements.
‘At the Extraordinary Meeting, Council will consider reverting to its Code of Meeting Practice based on the 2021 Model Code, with the most recent version adopted at the 20 February 2025 Council meeting. This will provide continuity in governance processes while maintaining compliance with the applicable legislative framework.
‘The Code of Meeting Practice sets out the rules and procedures for the conduct of Council meetings, ensuring transparency, consistency and orderly decision-making.
‘Members of the public are welcome to attend the Extraordinary Meeting‘, staff say.
