Celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of First Nations Australians, NAIDOC Week runs from 5-12 July with the theme ‘50 Years of Deadly’.
The Bundjalung of Byron are inviting everyone to join them at the Arakwal NAIDOC march and celebrations that kick off in Railway Park, Byron Bay at 9.30am on Wednesday, 8 July.
‘There will be Arakwal dancers, performers and an Elders tent, community stalls, and more,’ said organisers.
Short films
The 19th Arakwal NAIDOC Week short film screening will take place on 7 July at the Byron Theatre.
‘The filmmakers and film creatives featured in the 19th year of screenings are some of the leading lights in First Nations film today, blazing brightly on Australian screens,’ said organisers.
The program showcases seven remarkable short films, including Bringing His Spirit Home by alumni Dylan Nicholls from Kingscliff High.
The screening is a fundraiser for the Arakwal Bundjalung Corporation. For information on the program and tickets, go to flickerfest.com.au/tour/byron-naidoc or byroncentre.com.au, otherwise pick up a ticket on the door.
