Pottsville Triathlon announced for 24-25 October

Entries are now open for the inaugural Pottsville Beach Triathlon, a fresh coastal multisport weekend, taking place on 24-25 October.

Organisers say, ‘Set in one of the Tweed Coast’s most relaxed beach towns, Pottsville Beach Triathlon will bring together national championship events, a World Triathlon Age Group qualifying event, and a full weekend of community acitivities’.

‘Pottsville has been home to long-course racing for almost a decade, with the former Tweed Enduro establishing a strong community of athletes, supporters and local event partners. Pottsville Beach Triathlon builds on that history while introducing a fresh identity, a new spring date and an expanded weekend format for more ages and abilities.

‘Saturday racing will include Long Course Triathlon, Olympic Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Aquathlon, Sprint Duathlon, Aquabike, Tempta Triathlon, Teams and Discover Kids events.

‘Pottsville Beach Triathlon will host the 2026 Australian Age Group National Championships for Sprint Aquathlon and Sprint Duathlon, along with a 2027 World Triathlon Age Group Championships qualifying event for Sprint Triathlon.

‘Sunday will expand the weekend beyond triathlon, with the introduction of the Black Rocks Adventure Run and the Pottsville Community Swim in Mooball Creek. The Community Swim will offer 500m and 1000m options in the clear waters of the creek, with the outgoing tide helping swimmers along the course.

NX Race Director Mike Crawley said the event had been designed to celebrate both the racing history of Pottsville and the relaxed coastal character of the town.

‘Pottsville has a proud history of long-course racing, and we wanted to build on that rather than simply repeat it,’ Mr Crawley said.

‘The Pottsville Beach Triathlon gives the event a fresh identity, a better time of year and a broader weekend format, while keeping what athletes love about racing here – fast and flat courses, clear water, a great coastal setting and a strong community feel.

‘Athletes can chase a title, step up in distance, try their first triathlon, race with a team, bring the family or build a full weekend around the event.

‘Pottsville is the kind of place where you come for the race and end up making a weekend holiday of it.’

Organiser add, ‘The event is expected to attract athletes and supporters from across Northern New South Wales, South East Queensland and further afield, supporting local visitation, accommodation, hospitality and tourism activity across the weekend’.

‘Pottsville Beach Triathlon is open to a wide range of participants, from long-course athletes and competitive age-group racers through to first-timers, juniors, teams and community participants.

‘Launch pricing is available until 31 July 2026’.

Entries are now open at pottsvillebeachtri.org.
