The Northern Rivers Conservatorium is thrilled to present the grand finale concert of the Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra (NRYO) 2026, ‘celebrating the extraordinary talent, dedication and musicianship of young performers from across the region.’

Organisers say, ‘Following three days of intensive rehearsals, workshops and music-making, audiences are invited to experience an inspiring evening of orchestral performance at the Whitebrook Theatre, Southern Cross University (SCU) in Lismore on Thursday 9 July.

‘Under the direction of conductor Sonya Lopes, alongside assistant conductor Nic Campbell and musical director Michael McCabe, the orchestra will present a vibrant and engaging program showcasing the remarkable achievements of the region’s young musicians.

‘The 2026 program once again welcomes “Buddies” from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, providing participants with valuable mentorship opportunities and the chance to work alongside emerging tertiary-level musicians.

‘This year we’ll explore a rich and exciting range of music, from film and stage works to pieces inspired by diverse cultural traditions and jazz influences. I’m looking forward to working with the talented young musicians of Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra 2026 and helping them develop their skills, confidence and enjoyment of making music together’’ said MD Michael McCabe.

Executive Director, Anita Bellman, said the Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra continues to be one of the Conservatorium’s most important and joyful annual programs.

‘NRYO is about far more than performance. It’s about connection, inspiration, mentorship and creating opportunities for young musicians to experience the excitement and power of making music together at a very high level.’

Organisers say ‘The finale concert will feature full orchestra, concert band and string ensembles performing an exciting and diverse repertoire spanning classical favourites, contemporary works and popular music’.

‘The Northern Rivers Conservatorium extends sincere thanks to Southern Cross University for their generous ongoing support and use of the Whitebrook Theatre for the finale concert.’
