Billinudgel is celebrating as the Billinudgel and Ocean Shores Rural Fire Brigade turns 50.
The brigade is inviting everyone to come and find out more about your local emergency volunteer organisations on Saturday, 19 September, 10am to 2pm. Then on Sunday 20 September celebrate their 50th Birthday by joining in the fun Bush Dance extravaganza at the Billinudgel Pub from 4pm to 7pm.
Emergency Expo
‘South Golden Beach (SGB), New Brighton, Ocean Shores, and Billinudgel have around 7,000 people living there. That’s a lot of people to look after,’ Billinudgel Rural Fire Service (RFS) Senior Deputy Captain Murray ‘Muzz’ Dreschler told The Echo.
‘The Saturday Volunteer Emergency Community Expo will demonstrate what volunteering gives local communities both as a volunteer and as a member of the community.’
The RFS, SES, Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA), Marine Rescue, and the Community Resilience team from Ocean Shores, South Golden, and New Brighton will be on hand to chat with.
‘Burringbar and Main Arm brigades will also join us,’ said Billinudgel and Ocean Shores RFS President Kitty Crain.
‘This will be a great time to talk to the different services if you are thinking of volunteering in the future. The Expo will also include active demonstrations, fun fire hose activity for kids, lucky door prizes, a cake stall and a free sausage sizzle.
‘I want to promote the RFS and volunteerism for emergencies,’ said Muzz.
‘Volunteering gives local communities the opportunity to look after themselves when there is an emergency and they need to be cared for.’
Kick up those heels!
Everyone is welcome to celebrate 50 years of the Billinudgel and Ocean Shores RFS on Sunday, 20 September by kicking up their heels and enjoying an energetic bush dance at the Billinudgel Pub from 4pm.
‘Bring your cowboy hat and learn a few dance steps to the music of the Playing Possum Bush Band. We have some great raffle prizes to win, and pink lemonade for those young at heart,’ said President Kitty.
