No Jan, the Integrated Native Forest Method (INFM) is a disaster… Labor has broken its promise on the Great Koala National Park (GKNP).
Thirty-one (31) environment groups in NSW wrote to Greens senators asking them to disallow the INFM.
Regardless of Jan Barham’s support for it in the last Echo (26 August). Signatories included me, Ashley Love, co-originator of the GKNPproposal, and Bellingen Environment Centre Inc, whose members have also worked to protect forests for many decades.
Unlike Ms Barham we reject Premier Minns’ attempt to rewrite an election promise mid-term to make the GKNP now ‘depend’ on making carbon credits, when for 11 years that promise was unconditional.
The forest movement’s grass roots are outraged at this bad faith and are in open revolt against these four groups’ sell-out of the GKNP, and their support for a carbon credits scam using the INFM that will lead to more coal mining and claiming a consensus on their position which just does not exist.
We want The Greens to vote down the INFM and demand Minns honour Labor’s election commitment to ‘create a Great Koala National Park’ without carbon credits, as promised in 2015, 2019, and 2023, and to do so urgently. And if Minns keeps stalling, we want The Greens to prosecute this broken election promise all the way to the state election. No Jan, it’s not perfect… in my view INFM is a disaster.
