Labor branches in the seat of Ballina voted in their preselection over the weekend and it is understood that Janet Swain has comfortably won, though this won’t be confirmed until Thursday.
Former NBN News cameraman, Lachlan Hall, from Alstonville had also put up his hand to run.
Branches who voted in the preselection were Ballina, Byron Bay, and Alstonville. However, many members of the Mullumbimby-Brunswick branch, which is the largest branch in the state seat of Ballina and federal seat of Richmond, were unable to vote in the preselction as the branch is currently under review.
Ocean Shores-based Swain had previously been a member of the Mullumbimby-Brunswick Labor branch and had subsequently moved to the Ballina branch while some others had moved to the Byron Bay branch.
