An extract from the latest GetUp! mail-out about One Nation’s use and abuse of AI.
‘Earlier this month, The Guardian interviewed a woman in Indonesia who spends her days posting AI content into a Facebook group of 26,000 Pauline Hanson supporters. She can’t name Australia’s head of government and she doesn’t care (fair enough – she’s in Indonesia). She just knows this content pays well, under Meta’s engagement program that literally pays people to generate the most divisive, engaging content they can.
‘“The Pauline group has great dollars,” she said. Meta’s algorithm even recruited her – she posted something, Facebook suggested the Hanson group, and she followed the money.’
