A service station employee has died in hospital after allegedly being hit by a ute in Coffs Harbour last week.

Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District were called to Harbour Drive about 7pm on Tuesday (20 October 2026), responding to reports a 36-year-old man was trapped under a ute on a service station forecourt.

The man was initially rendered first aid by members of the public before NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW SES attended and freed him. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition, before he was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

Following the crash, officers attached to Crash Investigation Unit commenced inquiries into the incident. As part of inquiries, investigators arrested the alleged driver of the ute, a 44-year-old woman, the same day.

She has since been charged and remains before the court.

Yesterday (Sunday 25 October 2026), police were notified the 36-year-old man had died in hospital. A report will be prepared for the information of the NSW Coroner.

Police inquiries are continuing.
