The latest candidate to put their hand up for the state election in 2027 is mother of four Sharon Friel who will stand for the Greens in Tweed next March.
Ms Friel, who is a Tweed local, is pledging to champion local communities, protect the region’s natural environment and push for a fairer, more affordable future..
With qualifications in psychology and business, The Greens says she combines an understanding of people’s needs with hands-on experience in organisational leadership and community projects.
Incredibly fortunate
Ms Friel says she is incredibly fortunate to be raising her family in the Tweed. ‘This is a wonderful place to call home, and we have a responsibility to protect what makes it so special,’ she says.
‘We must protect our precious natural environment, stand up for our communities and preserve what makes this region so extraordinary for generations to come.’
Sharon says she was entering politics because she wanted to help rebuild public trust and ensure local voices were heard in decisions affecting people’s everyday lives.
‘Too many people have lost faith in politics. I believe we can change that by bringing fresh voices, real-world experience and a stronger focus on people into the decisions that shape our lives.’
A critical role
‘The NSW Government has a critical role to play in addressing the challenges facing communities, from housing affordability and access to healthcare and education, to transport and the rising cost of living.’
Ms Friel says people need governments that understand the pressures they’re under and are prepared to act. ‘We need practical solutions that make life fairer, strengthen our communities and give everyone a fair chance to build a secure future.’
Ms Friel says she wants to represent Tweed residents and advocate for the region’s unique natural environment. ‘I’m standing as the Greens candidate for Tweed because our community deserves a strong and dedicated local voice, our environment deserves a champion, and our future is worth fighting for.’
