Over spring and summer koalas are on the move as they search for food, territory and mates. Unfortunately the Northern Rivers Koala Hospital says that this season is also known as ‘trauma season’ – they are seeing a significant increase in admissions, particularly from vehicle strikes.

Friends of the Koala (FoK) are reminding everyone to slow down on the roads, especially at dawn and dusk. This is when koalas are likely to be more active and are more difficult to see.

Report if concerned

Also remember to keep your dogs and other pets in overnight and if you see a koala on the ground give it some space. A koala on the ground isn’t necessarily in trouble, but if you notice signs of injury, illness or unusual behaviour, contact Friends of the Koala for advice on (02) 6622 1233 or go to their website at: www.friendsofthekoala.org.
