NSW Police say a man – wanted by virtue of two outstanding warrants – has been charged after a firearm and stolen car were allegedly seized following a pursuit near Coraki.

At about 1.15pm on Saturday, officers attached to Richmond Police District were patrolling Coraki, when they attempted to stop a Holden Commodore on Spring Street, after the driver was identified as wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.

Further checks also revealed the Holden was reportedly stolen from a property in Casino on Friday, October 30.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed; a pursuit was initiated travelling into Casino before it was terminated due to safety concerns.

Police will allege during the pursuit, the driver exceeded the speed limit and travelled on the incorrect side of the roadway.

Driver allegedly fled on foot

The Holden was later found abandoned on East Street, Casino, with the driver allegedly fled on foot.

During a search of the vehicle, police located and seized several weapons – including machetes and knives – and prohibited drugs. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

A perimeter was established and a search was conducted with the assistance of Traffic and Highway Patrol and Dog Unit.

The driver was found hiding in a home on Hartley Street, Casino and was arrested about 4.40pm.

Police also allegedly located and seized a bag nearby containing a firearm and ammunition.

The 27-year-old man was taken to Casino Police Station where the two outstanding warrants for robbery and pursuit related offences were executed.

He was also charged with 10 offences,
• police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly,
• never licensed person drive vehicle on road,
• drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner,
• possess unauthorised prohibited firearm,
• possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm,
• not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm,
• acquire firearm no licence or permit – prohibited firearm,
• possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority,
• acquire prohibited firearm-subject prohibition order, and
• acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1.
