A man will appear before court today charged with 22 offences following an investigation into several alleged driving and property offences at Murwillumbah.
In early April 2024, police from Tweed/Byron Police District and Far North Highway Patrol Command commenced an investigation into several incidents they believed were linked.
The incidents include alleged break and enter, stolen car, pursuit, and breach AVO incidents, and over the course of the investigation, two warrants were issued for a 27-year-old man.
Following extensive inquiries and an appeal to the community for information, the man was located by investigators at a unit on Church Lane, Murwillumbah, about 5pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 April 2024).
Following a foot pursuit, the man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where two arrest warrants were executed and he was charged with 22 offences:
- seven counts of licence expired within the last two years
- three counts of drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- two counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- two counts of receive etc property stolen outside NSW
- two counts of driver not wear seatbelt properly adjusted and fastened
- break and enter house etc steal
- use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed
- fail to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgment
- detention application notice after breach etc
- contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic)
The man was also charged with affray. He was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court today.
