Tweed Shire Council has secured funding to stock Australian Bass in Clarrie Hall Dam, says Nationals Member for Tweed Geoff Provest.
He said in a media release it will help restore fish populations and improve recreational fishing opportunities.
‘The stocking program will help rebuild bass numbers following the 2022 floods, which are believed to have significantly reduced the population in the dam’.
‘As well as enhancing the fishing experience for recreational anglers, the initiative will support the long-term health and resilience of Clarrie Hall Dam’s aquatic ecosystem’.
Mr Provest said the funding was a win for both the local community and the environment.
‘Healthy fish populations are vital for recreational fishing and the overall health of our waterways,’ Mr Provest said.
‘This investment will help restore bass numbers after the impacts of the 2022 floods, while ensuring Clarrie Hall Dam remains a great destination for anglers to enjoy for years to come.
‘The funding will enable Tweed Shire Council to continue managing the dam as a valued recreational fishing destination while supporting the sustainability of native fish populations’.
