Healthy tips on garlic from our naturopath:

GarlicGarlic has been known as a cultivated plant for so long that it is difficult to trace its country of origin.

Some sources say it is indigenous to Siberia but then quickly spread to southern Europe where it became naturalised and a common ingredient of most dishes.

It has been used as a medicinal herb from these ancient times, mostly as an antiseptic for all types of infections.

Mrs M Grieve in A Modern Herbal says that ‘syrup of garlic is an invaluable remedy for asthma, hoarseness, coughs, difficulty of breathing and most disorders of the lungs being of particular virtue in chronic bronchitis.’

See Vanessa and Will Cotterill from Gourmet Garlic at the Mullum Farmers Markets to stock up on all your garlic needs including pickled garlic, garlic-infused olive oil and roast garlic puree.

Check out the Mullumbimby Farmers Market Facebook page for more fascinating info on garlic and a great recipe for pumpkin and garlic soup.
