Lismore Shire election boiler plate 2021

Lismore, also known by its nickname Lovemore, is one of the four local government areas (LGA) getting ready for Council elections in December.

The population was 43,667 in 2020 and the Lismore area is full of interesting characters and probably always has been. But it was the fight against coal seam gas (CSG), locally known as the Bentley Blockade, between 2012 and 2014 that brought those characters to light and delivered to us some of our current Councillors.

A big issue for the Lismore, Ballina, Byron and Richmond Valley Shires is water security with the debate raging over the Dunoon Dam project which also draws in issues of viable population density, environmental stability and Indigenous heritage.

Lismore City Council is governed by 11 Councillors who are elected to represent the LGA including a popularly elected Mayor.
