Demand for assistance from Marine Rescue NSW remains high, says the volunteer organisation, with their latest data from last month showing 24 search and rescue missions for the North Coast, including 16 emergency responses.

It has been quite a journey from conception to now for the Brunswick Surf Life Saving Club as they have sought to redevelop their clubhouse and bring it into the 21st century, but they are now about to celebrate the completion of stage one of the site redevelopment.

Born and bred in Byron Bay, President of the Brunswick Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC), Craig Reid, has spent his entire life by the ocean and he couldn’t love it more.

After years of planning and months of waiting, the demolition of the Surf Life Saving Club at Brunswick Heads is finally underway.

From Point Danger, to Brunswick, Cape Byron, Ballina, Evans Head, Iluka Yamba and Wooli there have been 325 search and rescue missions by Marine Rescue NSW units in the Northern Rivers, safely returning 673 people to shore.

We can always hope that history doesn’t repeat itself, but it often does, and if last summer is anything to go by, we are going to need all the lifesavers we can get on the beaches this year.

Marine Rescue Brunswick has become the first service in NSW to receive a new type of inflatable boat designed to undertake flood rescues in difficult conditions.

Residents in Ocean Shores, New Brighton, Brunswick Heads, South Golden Beach and Billinudgel were ordered to evacuate or find higher ground this morning.
