Plans to rezone transport corridor land to private use south of Mitre 10 near the new bypass have stirred neighbours into action, with claims it would set a precedent and has ‘no place in future-proofing Byron Bay’.

Stage on of Byron Bay’s Railway Square parks upgrade has been completed and has seen the north-eastern corner of the park converted into a ‘plaza’ area, designed as the first step in recapturing the park’s role as the community meeting and gathering space.

The eviction notice handed to the Byron Environment Centre by Byron Shire Council on October 16 was officially revoked at the council's extraordinary meeting last Thursday. But the centre's long-term tenure is still in doubt.
