The Independent Planning Commission for the NSW government, who will make the final decision on the Narrabri Gas Field development, have heard hundreds of concerns over the last week about the plans to drill 850 coal seam gas wells in and around the Pilliga State Forest in the northwest of NSW.
Gas is in the air again. The northwest of NSW is preparing for the unfolding of a giant gas field, from the far Queensland border to Dubbo. The first of seven stages will be the Narrabri Gas Project, with 850 wells in the Pilliga State Forest.
Back in 2013 the state government led by Barry O’Farrell commissioned the chief scientist, professor Mary O’Kane, to conduct a comprehensive review of CSG-related activities, focusing on the human health and environmental impacts of unconventional gas.
