NSW Police advise that a northbound truck has crashed into the rear of an abandoned vehicle, on the M1 south of Tweed Heads.

The Easter long weekend traffic operation has now concluded, with four lives lost on NSW roads. Police had a high-visibility presence across the state during Operation Easter 2026 from 12.01am Thursday 2 April 2026 to 11.59pm Monday 6 April 2026.

Drivers are advised of changed traffic conditions expected this week in Bangalow, owing to bridge maintenance.

Anyone planning to travel to or from Byron Bay this afternoon is advised to check online traffic advice first owing to a crash on Ewingsdale Road.

The Lismore City Council says Wyrallah Road is to be temporarily closed to all traffic at Bridge Street for the next two weeks.

Bangalow’s Byron Creek Bridge is to remain closed until at least Friday this week, with staff saying investigations into its structural integrity are continuing after a recent fire.

Some of the busiest holiday traffic of the season is expected to cause delays heading north on the Pacific Motorway at Tugun this week, including today, authorities have warned.

The closure of Mullumbimby Road to outbound traffic for several months has impacted many local businesses with a downturn in trade at a crucial time of year. It has also led to the closure of the famous Uncle Tom’s Pies on the corner of Gulgan Road and Mullumbimby Road.

Traffic is currently backing up in both directions on Ewingsdale Road going into and out of Byron Bay due to a car accident on the road. 

Mullumbimby Industrial Estate businesses have raised concerns around Council’s roadwork plans to block all traffic from travelling east to the highway, for four months (October to February) during the peak of summer/holiday trade.
