After thirty years of publication, The Echo, publisher of the Byron Shire Echo and Echonetdaily, has joined the Press Council, the industry body responsible for promoting good standards of journalistic practice.
The Echo’s general manager Simon Haslam said, ‘As a small independent print and online media organisation, The Echo supports the Council’s championing of free media in the face of unprecedented government restrictions.
‘In these times of technological, social and commercial change, it is more important than ever that examination of government and commercial power be continued by bodies with a commitment to high standards.
‘We support the work of the Press Council in promoting free speech,’ Mr Haslam said.

For four decades The Echo has printed the stories some people loved, some people hated, and some pretended not to read. If you want us to keep telling the truth, the real truth, not the sugar-coated version. We’ll need your support to keep the presses rolling.
