Bookings are now being taken for six-week Golf for Seniors programs at Murwillumbah and Ocean Shores that are designed for anyone aged 55 and over who wants to learn to play golf.
The programs have been put together by the Office of Sport in association with Golf NSW and recognise that regular golf can offer a range of health benefits including improved stamina, cardiovascular fitness, burning calories, reduced stress and developing muscular endurance.
The six-week program (one hour per day, one day per week) is targeted at individuals aged 55 and over who want to learn to play golf or to simply improve their game.
The program costs $99 and covers all the equipment and instruction you need to enjoy the game of golf, and includes morning tea, six one-hour golf lessons, equipment and green fees.
In the last two weeks participants will go out onto the golf course to play one or two holes with their professional instructor and some members of the club.
Additionally, participants who complete the program will receive special membership offers from the host club.
The programs are an opportunity to bring a friend and experience golf in a relaxed, social and safe environment, Office of Sport development officer Hamish Neal said.
‘This is part of a statewide program to be staged at 15 clubs from Ocean Shores on the state’s far north coast to Liverpool in Sydney’s west,’ Neal said.
The Murwillumbah Golf Club program will run at 10.30am each Wednesday from April 5 till May 10 inclusive. Bookings close March 29. http://www.golfnsw.org/Seniors
The Ocean Shores Country Club program will run at 2.30pm each Thursday from April 20 till May 25 inclusive.

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. Youth crime is increasing – what to do?

There is something strange going on with youth crime in rural and regional Australia. Normally, I treat hysterical rising delinquency claims with a pinch of salt – explicable by an increase in police numbers, or a headline-chasing tabloid, or a right-wing politician.
