The annual Flickerfest and iQ Inc three-day festival of short films is at the Mullumbimby Civic Hall from Thursday, February 29 to Saturday, March 2.
This year’s smorgasbord of over 40 incredible short films is handpicked from a record 3,400 entries received for Flickerfest, the Academy® and BAFTA-qualifying short film festival which screened recently in Bondi, including much-loved favourites and award winners.
Thursday’s doors open at 7pm – raise a glass to 27 years of Flickerfest in the Northern Rivers at the festival’s opening night party with delicious drinks and sumptuous snacks included. Then at 8pm take a trip around the world with the Best Of International Shorts program.
Amongst a host of international highlights enjoying Australian premieres is the delightful Last Days Of Summer from award-winning Himalayan filmmaker Shenzin Tangkong.
On Friday, March 1 at 8pm, the festival shines a spotlight on the incredible short film talent that exists in our emerging Australian industry with a host of Australian stories honouring our unique identity and culture with the Best Of Australian Shorts program. Highlights include: Cold Water starring industry legend Bruce Spence, winner of Best Script at Flickerfest 2024; and Yeah The Boys enhanced by a stunning original soundtrack from The Avalanches, winner of Best Australian Short Film.
Further highlights fresh from Flickerfest Bondi include local Northern Rivers shorts, Djalbuyan Nahra, written and directed by Flickerfest alumni and four-time award winner Jahvis Loveday, and Living With It by Lennox Head born and raised Mobina Rowhani.
On Saturday, March 2 from 4pm the festival will celebrate more local talent in the 19th year of Byron All Shorts, and at 8pm see the clever comedy bringing joy to the big screen with the Short Laughs Comedy program.
