For 20 years Mandy Nolan ran a comedy class at our local Byron Community College. Over that time she taught close to 2,000 people, including Emmy Award winner Hannah Gadsby and most recent national RAW Comedy finalist Alexandra Hudson.

A few years back one of the busiest women in the region admitted she can’t do it all and stepped back from her two decades of making local wannabes funny. But now she’s back.

‘I missed it,’ she said. ‘I love working with people and giving them the tools to get on stage and try comedy. It’s bloody addictive – they should be warned!’

Mandy has made her much-welcomed return to Byron Community College and taught her first crop of stand-ups.

‘They’re awesome,’ she says. ‘From a 15-year-old who knows more about politics than the average adult to a poet and to a school teacher lamenting why we don’t have adult show and tell. There’s literally something for everyone’.

After four weeks of training the comedy graduates are ready to fly! Byron Services Club on Monday at 7pm, pick up your show tix here. Featuring Mandy as MC and Sydney’s Daniel Muggleton as the featured comedian.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
