Pottsville Women

October 3:  Social Bowls – Rather a quiet day on the greens as many of our members were up supporting Cudgen Leagues’ Gala Day.  Regardless, the ladies at home enjoyed a lovely morning of bowls  Dee Donges & Jean Combie and Lorraine Rice & Narelle Tait were  pairs winners of their respective rinks.  Well done, ladies.

Great to see Pottsville girls at Cudgen skipped by Wendy Fielding bring home the first round winners Mystery Margin Prize. Coral Withers’ team collected the overall runners-up prize on the day on a count back.  Way to go, girls.  While we are still on Cudgen, did you hear about the lovely lady bowler (also attending the Gala Day) who entered the lift with two really nice older gentlemen to travel down to the G. Floor? Well…. the down button was engaged, the lift descended about 300 mm (1 foot), and then stopped!  The lift door couldn’t be opened! The lights went out! While you are probably thinking O.M.G., our femme fatale bowler was thinking her luck may be changing at last! Sorry, that’s enough info.  My lips are sealed!

October 4:  Potty Pairs (Self selected men, women, mixed).  Round two of this competition was another great afternoon for the contestants on both greens. Strong competitiveness and talent was very obvious with so many close games being played.  Winners this week with 21 pts were Jan and Ron Appleton (Pottsville).   Mary Chisholm and Kevin Kelly (Condong) with 20 pts took out the runners-up prize..  Congratulations folks.  Charity Cherubs were Nancye Gleeson, Arnold Arnott and Roy Gleeson.  Thanks, everyone.  Round 3 will be on Friday 11 October.  Sheet on Club Notice Board for entries or phone Coral Withers 0431 729 623.  The ‘end of competition’ Jackpot is growing and now up to $172.  Hows that!  Looks like some lucky bowler is in for a nice collect at the end of the comp.

*** October 14-19.  The all important State Championships at Tuncurry.  Wendy Fielding andd Coral Withers (Skip) will be contesting the State Pairs title commencing October 14.  Come Friday, October 18, Pottsville’s own ‘Queen of the Greens’ Coral Withers will enter the fray to contest the Singles title.  President Catriona and members wish these ladies every success and good bowling at the titles.  Go, girls, Go!

October 28: The Tweed Byron District Shield will be conducted at Brunswick Heads Bowling Club.  Congratulations to Patricia Field, Patricia Pollard,  Georgina Moore, Coral Withers (Skip), Janet Appleton, Janice Richards, Doreen Buckley and Aileen Swift (Skip) who have been selected to represent Pottsville at this prestigious event.  Good luck and good bowling, ladies.

November 4:  Tweed Byron District President’s, Secretaries’ and Treasurer’s Day will be held at Pottsville Bowling Club.  Entries close with District Secretary, Annie Revie, Wednesday 30th October 2013. This is a great fun competition, so make sure your entries are in on time. Thank you.
Social Bowls are on Thursdays 9 am.  Names to be in by 8.30 am please. Free Coaching is also available for new members as well as members who may like to freshen up their game. Please phone the Club on 6676 1077, follow the prompts, and leave a message and contact number.
