During the month of October local Dragons Abreast Australia groups will be hosting events in their community to raise awareness of the benefits of dragon boat racing for breast cancer survivors.
Dragons Abreast Australia is a national not-for-profit charity comprising breast cancer survivors (and some very special supporters) of various ages from a great variety of backgrounds, athletic abilities and interests.
Dragons Abreast members provide a ‘face’ for the breast cancer statistics whilst spreading the message of breast cancer awareness through participation in the wonderful and strenuous sport of dragon boat racing.
Dragons Abreast commenced in Australia in 1998, following in the footsteps of a study by Dr Don McKenzie and a group of breast cancer survivors in Vancouver, Canada. Read more about the beginnings of Dragons Abreast Australia here: www.dragonsabreast.com.au.
Events will be varied across the country from a ‘come and try’ paddle followed by morning tea or a barbecue.
The local Dragons Abreast group, Rainbow Dragons Abreast, invites breast cancer survivors and their supporters regardless of age, fitness, athletic ability or cultural background to come and have fun paddling and experience the benefits associated with dragon boating
Meet at Lake Ainsworth (Southern End opposite Surf Club), Lennox Head, this Sunday 18 October at 7.40am for 8am start followed by morning tea.
