When Your Boss is a Fat Prick
You write a song. And you call it My Boss is a Fat Prick and then you record it and then it ends up being released on Triple J’s Unearthed! Thats what Byron-based four-piece Real Jarrah did. Frontman Jarrah and JJ (bass) met at a soccer match, where they found themselves discussing the fine art of grass cutting and their mutual love for loud rock.
Soon accompanied by Mark (guitars) and Gil (drums), the band was formed in 2012 and Jarrah set out to write rock tunes, drawing on some humorous life experiences. Real Jarrah recorded at U-Live Studios in 2015 laying down some punchy rock tracks for their upcoming EP. Their live shows are kicking goals, notching up plenty of gigs around the local area and up to the Goldy. Real Jarrah’s energetic set showcases their original material and covers from the likes of Foo Fighters, Green Day and Frenzal Rhomb. Their ever-growing audience are encouraged to get onstage as the communal tambourine is passed around, getting an absolute flogging!
Real Jarrah play the Middle Pub in Mullumbimby this Saturday at 7.30pm. Free entry.

When You Feel Like Lamb
The boys from Lamb Boulevard may be fairly new to the music scene but each individual member has had his fair share of musical experiments, and so brings his own flavour to a unique amalgamation of indie folk and rock. The boys like to consider themselves just a little bit different. In saying that, their music is hard to describe as it goes from having a banjo and violin to a smooth folk acoustic sound. Lamb Boulevard started with Liam (singer) and Dave (banjo) when they had just finished high school.
Playing as an acoustic duo across Melbourne, they met Dylan through an open mic night held at a venue called Musicland. Dylan approached the boys and the lineup became what it is today, with Jeremy later being added on keys/violin. Friday at the Byron Brewery at 8pm. Free.

Internationally acclaimed Canadian retro soul songstress Ann Vriend returns to Australia for a series of shows with her band. Considered by many an honorary Australian, Ann is well known for her enigmatic shows and is looking forward to bringing her band back with her for her 2016 east coast tour.
‘I am known to a lot of Aussies as a solo performer, as up until recently I’ve performed almost exclusively solo in Australia,’ says Ann. ‘And while I enjoy that intimate way of performing and am glad I have that ability up my sleeve, this latest album is all about groove, all about the rhythm section. So I’m pretty excited about showing off my band to Aussie audiences. We’ve toured a lot in the last two years and we have worked out some live arrangements of our material from the album that I’m really proud of.’
Ann plays the Treehouse in Belongil on Friday.

The release of this single – I Got What I Wanted (But I Lost What I Had) – will be celebrated with a six-show east coast tour. I Got What I Wanted (But I Lost What I Had), inspired by a Little Richard story, is a frenetic Motown soul featuring a three-piece horn section and the trademark drum and tambourine combination.
