Update: The body of a man who went missing at Coraki yesterday has been located this morning.
About 6am (Sunday 11 December 2016), police were called to the bridge on Adams Street, after reports a 22-year-old man had jumped into the river from the East Coraki Bridge about 20 minutes earlier and had not been seen since.
Police Rescue from Lismore co-ordinated a search involving officers from Richmond Local Area Command, the LifeSaver4 helicopter, and SES crews from Lismore and Woodburn.
Just before 9am today (Monday 12 December 2016), the man’s body was located in the river near the bridge on Adams Street.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Original report: A search is underway of the Richmond River after a man jumped off a bridge at Coraki on Sunday morning and failed to surface.
Police were called to the bridge on Adams Street, Coraki, about 6am (Sunday, December 11), by family members who reported the 22-year-old man had jumped into the river about 20 minutes earlier and had not been seen since.
Police Rescue from Lismore is co-ordinating the search which involves police from Richmond Local Area Command, the LifeSaver4 helicopter, and SES crews from Lismore and Woodburn.
The SES crews are searching the river in three boats.
A large group of family members at the scene is being assisted by local police and Salvation Army officers.
