Shark culls not the answer

It has been a confronting and devastating year with a 12-year-old killed by a shark in Sydney and another shark attack in Coogee over the weekend. The NSW government has said there is nothing off the table in response to the latest shark incident. But it is vital that we don’t just start going out there and randomly culling sharks.

A 24-year-old man was found with 21 grams of amphetamine and an ounce of cannabis after trying to escape from police in Lismore.

He was just one of a number of people apprehended between 31 December and 2 January for driving offences involving alcohol and drugs.

Richmond Local Area command pssolice allege they tried to stop the man’s car in Lismore at 3am on 1 January for a breath test.

The vehicle accelerated away and drove down several streets before pulling into the driveway of a house in Arthur Street.

Police detained the 24-year-old driver.

He refused to supply his details and was aggressive towards police. He was placed under arrest and refused to let go of his car. After a struggle police detained the man.

Police searched the man’s vehicle and found what is believed to be 21 grams of amphetamine and 28 grams of cannabis.

At Lismore police station checks revealed that the 24-year-old was a disqualified driver. He was charged with Fail to comply with request to stop vehicle, drive whilst disqualified and resist police. Further charges may be laid once the drugs have been analysed.

He wasn’t alone.

Police have issued a list of the following people detected by local police between the 31st December and the 2nd January.

35-year-old Junction Hill man for Mid Range PCA and illegal use of a conveyance
44 year old Queensland man for Low Range PCA

24-year-old Lismore man for Driving Disqualified
18 year old Ballina woman for Special Range PCA

26-year-old Casino man for Special Range PCA

24-year-old Lismore woman for Mid Range PCA

21-year-old Casino man for Mid Range PCA

20-year-old Moree man for DUI drug (cannabis and ice) , Disqualified driver and steal motor vehicle

62-year-old Goonellabah woman taken to hospital for a blood alcohol sample after crashing her car

36-year-old Kyogle woman for Mid Range PCA

49-year old-Kyogle woman for Low Range PCA

43-year-old Kyogle man for Mid Range PCA
34 year old Queensland man positive drug test for cannabis

36-year-old Willoughby man for driving disqualified and speeding.

24-year-old Lennox Head man for high Range PCA

17-year-old woman for Special Range PCA21 year old Coffs Harbour man for Mid Range PCA

45-year-old Meershaum Vale man positive drug test for ice

34-yea- old man from Bentley positive drug test for ice

Police said they would continue alcohol and drug testing at all times of the day and night, on main roads and back streets.
