For the first time in history North East Tennis has won the Tennis Australia 12 Years Boys State Teams Event held in Bathurst last weekend.

Playing a round robin of singles and doubles against the best teams from all regions of NSW the boys ended up equal first with the ACT.

After four sets of singles and two of doubles, both teams were locked at three sets apiece. Even after a count back of games they were level on 27 games each.

The secret to the boys’ success was ‘great teamwork,’ team manager Shannyn Ricketts said.

‘Our North East 12 Years Girls Team (Lucy Tunsted, Whitney Moon, Amelia Johnson and Ausha Paulson) lost in a tight semifinal against the eventual winners and only lost on a countback on games to come third overall,’ Ricketts said.

‘I am so immensely proud of what they’ve achieved. This shows the high standard of tennis and the quality of depth in our juniors on the North Coast,’ Shannyn said.

If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

It’s MardiGrass!

This year is Nimbins 32nd annual MardiGrass and you’d reckon by now ‘weed’ be left alone. The same helicopter raids, the disgusting, and completely unfair, saliva testing of drivers, and we’re still not allowed to grow our own plants. We can all access legal buds via a doctor, most of it imported from Canada, but we can’t grow our own. There’s something very wrong there.
