The Thomas Noble and Russell cricket team won the 35th staging of the Byron Bay Cricket Twilight competition after winning three games on the day to sweep the finals last weekend.
The TNR team finished the regular season in third place and won its first two games of the final day against Town & Country and the Byron Bowling Club.
On each occasion the TNR side displayed their batting prowess and chased down totals in the 16-over format of the game with relative ease.
The simple tactic of sending their opponents in to bat and keeping them to low scores, rather than setting a target, proved to be a masterstroke.
In the grand final they came up against Kronix, who were minor premiers for the second year in a row. Sadly It was also back-to-back grandfinal losses for the team.
Kronix opened the batting and scored a very respectable 141, a total good enough to win previous finals.
But TNR did what they do best and unleashed their top-flight batting lineup and chased down the runs, once again with overs to spare, to secure their first premiership.
Last year’s premiers Eureka were left to play the ‘Best of the Rest’ final and took on the competition’s popular and newest team the Rip Starters.
Eureka managed to claim a razor-edged final off the second-last ball of the innings with some good fielding.
Paul Munn Designs just missed out on the the finals after a close countback.
