Two police officers were injured during the arrest of a man for drug offences at Brunswick Heads on Thursday (May 31).
At about 10pm, officers patrolling Riverside Crescent noticed a driver acting suspiciously.
Police pulled over the car and spoke to the driver, when it is alleged he became violent towards the officers and started throwing punches and kicking.
The officers sustained swelling and cuts to their faces and bodies.
Police eventually controlled the 22-year-old man, and he was arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station.
Police searched the man and allege they located cannabis on him.
He was charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest and possessing a prohibited drug.
The man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Mullumbimby Local Court on June 26.
