R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Raphael Lee Cass, Byron Bay

We in small towns have closer contact with people in public office than in cities. However Fast Buck$ referring to mayor Simon Richardson as ‘simple Simon’ is possibly beyond respectful discourse (Echo letters, 6/11/19). I don’t know if Fast Buck$ is a legal name or nom de plume. I wonder if that’s a cop-out for his identity, or is he so well known that that will do?

I’ve only been here for six years, so probably need 30 before I get ‘local status’ and can make a valid statement about this. As requested by The Echo, I gave my full name, address and phone number for this letter.

The Echo says that letters over 200 words may be cut. I have rarely seen a 200-word letter from Fast Buck$. His last one was 610 words. As he says, he is concerned about Council meeting practices – I suggest he respect Echo practices, edit his letters, and stick to the point.

His final paragraph stated that the mayor is disrespectful when he whispers ‘hilarious sniggers’ to Councillor Cameron about him and Jan Barham. Funny that. I thought a whisper is unheard by anyone other than the person to whom it’s directed.

(Apologies for writing 204 words.)

===========================================

A: Letters get published at the absolute discretion of the Letters Editor.

B: Mr Buck$’s long letters get left until the end – all the too-long letters get left to the end. If there is room, they get published. If there isn’t, they don’t. A lot of letters end up on the ‘cutting room floor’.

C: Mr Buck$ is Mr Buck$ legally. We know his address. We know EVERYONE’S address.
