Police say a body was found yesterday on the coast near Coffs Harbour and they have begun an investigation to find the identity of the deceased.
About 12pm (Sunday 26 January), police received reports that the body had been located on the shoreline at Safety Beach, just north of the Darkum Creek inlet.
Officers attached to Coffs Clarence Police District attended and the body was retrieved with the assistance of the State Emergency Service (SES).
The body was unable to be identified and was taken for forensic examination.
Inquiries have commenced to confirm who the person is and the circumstances surrounding their death.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
