I must admit that my google search on mesh was a bit hasty and I assumed the mesh referred to was a type of gutter-guard rather than a whole roof covering and I apologise to David Warren for this.
However I still think eliminating guttering on houses is a good idea. As I suggested in my first letter, harvesting water would be a challenge and water would basically have to be stored underground. To achieve gravity feed, water would have to be pumped up onto the roof, however there are advantages to such a system as a sprinkler system could be attached to the roof tank that would further protect the house.
