Response to Sue McLeod (Letters, 29 July) re ‘Coalition gives another $10m to Foxtel to boost women’s sport on TV and slashes ABC funding’.
I love women’s sport, including netball, and heard about this from someone on the inside.
The ABC charter does not allow advertising, but this is a requirement of sponsors and provides the money needed to pay the athletes. So sports have had to move to commercial TV to attract money.
The other commercial networks don’t have a women’s sport space. Nor do they do charity. Fox has many platforms that have to be filled with content. There is method in the madness.
I don’t have Fox Sport and will not connect it. So, like many other Australians, I will miss out.
